Aisling Drost Byrne from Glencolmcille, Co. Donegal grew up immersed in the rich fiddle tradition of her local area in Southwest Donegal. Her playing is firmly rooted in the unique style and repertoire passed down to her by her late father James ‘An Beirneach’ Byrne, bringing her own distinctive energy and creativity to his legacy.
Aisling is a graduate of the Irish World Academy of Music and Dance in Limerick where she is now based, working as a full time musician and fiddle tutor. She has performed at festivals and concerts across Ireland and abroad, collaborating with a range of traditional musicians, dancers and ensembles and is a member of the Donegal fiddle group The SíFiddlers.
In 2018 Aisling collected, arranged and produced an album of her late father’s music to commemorate his 10th anniversary and 2025 saw the release of her trio album with Brendan McCarthy and Conal O’Kane titled ‚Jump Out of It‘.
„I will be focusing primarily on the Donegal fiddle style and repertoire in my classes over the weekend. This will include highlands, mazurkas, barndances and of course reels and jigs from my local area. There may be a few southern tunes sprinkled in as well. Looking forward to a weekend full of tunes!“
